Synopsis
The year is 1985, and tragedy strikes when drug smuggler Andrew C. Thornton II dies. He was attempting to parachute out of his plane with a duffel bag full of cocaine. The bag falls from the sky, and a female American black bear ingests some of the cocaine. Consequently, the bear turns aggressive and attacks hikers.
Middle-schooler Dee Dee and her friend Henry stumble upon one of the bricks of cocaine. Unaware of its contents, they ingest it. Their misadventure leads to an encounter with the bear. Meanwhile, Detective Bob investigates the missing cocaine. He suspects it to be the work of St. Louis drug kingpin Syd White.
Dee Dee’s mother, Sari, and her crush, Peter, search for Dee Dee and Henry. They scour the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, where they encounter the bear. Daveed, Syd’s fixer, and Eddie, Syd’s son, are also on the hunt for the missing cocaine. They get into a brawl with the Duchamps gang, a group of troublemakers in the forest.
The bear becomes aggressive and kills several people, including Ranger Liz and two paramedics. As the chaos ensues, Sari and Henry follow Dee Dee’s trail to the bear’s cave. Here, they find the missing cocaine and confront Syd, Daveed, and Eddie. The bear defends her cubs, and in the end, Syd is killed by the bear. Sari, Dee Dee, and Henry return home safely after their harrowing experience in the forest.
